Description

and integration automation tests and integrating those tests into continuous integration environments so that software quality can be assessed consistently throughout development. Engineers will collaborate with developers to improve test and release processes, analyze code and application behavior, and help establish quality gates that support reliable releases. Experience with Linux and shell scripting is also important for working effectively with development and test environments. The role requires an engineering mindset: rather than simply executing predefined test cases, the professional should be able to write code that deliberately challenges software, identify weaknesses, and improve the overall testability and reliability of applications.

The opportunity is particularly suited to engineers who want to build a career at the intersection of software development, test automation, continuous integration, and Quality Engineering within the global payments industry. Mastercard's technology ecosystem supports digital payments across consumers, merchants, issuers, businesses, and governments, making software reliability and security critical to the company's products and services. The engineer will contribute to quality engineering methodologies, work with teams across the software development lifecycle, and help make quality an integral part of development. The role also requires strong communication skills because the engineer may interact with developers, program managers, and product managers. For professionals with experience in Agile environments and hands-on automation development, this position offers an opportunity to work on large-scale technology while developing deeper expertise in SDET practices, automation frameworks, CI/CD, API testing, and software quality engineering.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Drive Quality Engineering: Apply Quality Engineering principles throughout the software development lifecycle, helping development teams identify quality risks early and build reliable, maintainable, and testable applications.
  • Develop Automation Frameworks: Design, develop, maintain, and enhance automated testing frameworks using Java and industry-standard testing tools to provide scalable and repeatable test execution.
  • Create Acceptance Tests: Convert business and technical acceptance criteria into automated tests that validate whether new functionality meets functional and non-functional expectations.
  • Build Integration Tests: Develop integration automation for services and application components, validating interactions between APIs, systems, databases, and other dependent components.
  • Automate Web Applications: Use Selenium WebDriver and related automation techniques to validate web-based user interfaces and ensure that critical application workflows operate reliably.
  • Perform API Testing: Test RESTful services using structured JSON and XML data, validating API behavior, responses, integrations, error handling, and expected business scenarios.
  • Integrate With CI Pipelines: Connect automated test suites with Jenkins or Bamboo continuous integration environments so that quality checks can run consistently as software changes are introduced.
  • Use Code Quality Tools: Work with tools such as Sonar and code coverage solutions to identify quality gaps, improve test coverage, and provide teams with actionable engineering feedback.
  • Support Code Reviews: Collaborate with developers during code reviews and help identify potential issues affecting reliability, performance, testability, maintainability, or overall application quality.
  • Analyze Application Issues: Examine application logs and use basic debugging techniques to investigate failures, understand root causes, and provide useful technical information to development teams.
  • Improve Release Processes: Partner with developers to automate and strengthen testing and release processes, helping teams move toward faster and more reliable continuous delivery.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Communicate effectively with engineers, product managers, program managers, and other stakeholders to align quality objectives with customer and business requirements.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates should have a four-year degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent certifications and professional experience.
  • Java Programming: Strong hands-on programming experience in Java is essential because the role requires software development-level coding skills for building automation frameworks and test solutions.
  • Selenium WebDriver: Practical experience with Selenium WebDriver and web automation is required. Candidates should be able to create reliable automated scenarios rather than relying solely on record-and-playback approaches.
  • API Testing: Experience testing RESTful services, along with a working understanding of JSON and XML payloads, API responses, service integrations, and automated API validation.
  • Testing Frameworks: Familiarity with JUnit, TestNG, and/or Spock is important for developing unit, integration, and automated test suites within modern Java-based applications.
  • Version Control: Experience with Git-based version control, including platforms such as Bitbucket, is required for managing automation code, collaborating with development teams, and maintaining test frameworks.
  • CI/CD Knowledge: Candidates should have experience integrating automated testing with Jenkins, Bamboo, or comparable continuous integration platforms and understand how automated quality checks fit into software delivery pipelines.
  • Linux & Shell Scripting: Practical knowledge of Linux environments and shell scripting is expected, particularly for troubleshooting applications, managing test environments, executing automation, and analyzing system behavior.
  • Agile Methodology: Experience working within Agile software development environments is important. Candidates should understand iterative development, collaboration, acceptance criteria, continuous testing, and quality ownership within Scrum or similar methodologies.
  • Engineering Mindset: Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, collaboration, and analytical skills are essential. The ideal candidate should be comfortable writing code specifically to find weaknesses in software and should actively promote reliability, performance, and testability.
