Job Description

Wipro is hiring a Cyber Security Analyst L1 in Mumbai to support day-to-day cybersecurity operations, security monitoring, incident detection, and basic threat assessment activities. This entry-level cybersecurity position is focused on helping organizations maintain the integrity and security of their IT environments by identifying suspicious activity, reviewing security alerts, and assisting with the initial analysis of potential incidents. The analyst will monitor relevant log sources and security events to identify indicators such as unauthorized access attempts, malware signatures, unusual network traffic, and other potentially malicious behavior. This role provides an opportunity for cybersecurity professionals to develop practical experience in a Security Operations environment while learning how security incidents are detected, documented, assessed, and escalated.

A key responsibility of the Cyber Security Analyst L1 is security alert monitoring and incident triage. Analysts will review alerts, gather relevant information, determine the potential nature and severity of security events, and document findings within an incident management system. The role also includes supporting vulnerability assessment activities and collecting basic security data that can help experienced security professionals evaluate organizational risk. Candidates will need to follow established cybersecurity procedures and security compliance frameworks while maintaining accurate records of investigations. Strong attention to detail is essential because seemingly minor anomalies in logs, authentication activity, endpoint behavior, or network traffic can provide important indicators of a larger security issue. This makes the position a valuable starting point for professionals building careers in SOC operations and cybersecurity.

The opportunity is particularly suitable for candidates interested in progressing toward roles such as SOC Analyst, Security Operations Analyst, Cybersecurity Analyst, Incident Response Analyst, Vulnerability Analyst, or Security Engineer. Wipro's technology and consulting environment provides exposure to clients, digital transformation projects, security operations, and evolving cybersecurity requirements. The company emphasizes continuous learning and professional reinvention, making cybersecurity professionals responsible for continuously developing their technical capabilities as threats and technologies change. By gaining practical experience in alert monitoring, incident triage, log analysis, vulnerability assessment, security documentation, and compliance frameworks, an L1 analyst can establish a strong foundation for advancing into more specialized cybersecurity roles.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor cybersecurity alerts and security events by reviewing available alerts and log sources to identify suspicious activities, unauthorized access attempts, malware indicators, and unusual network behavior.
  • Perform initial incident triage by reviewing available security information, determining whether an alert requires further investigation, and escalating potentially significant incidents according to established security procedures.
  • Analyze security logs and event information to identify unusual patterns, indicators of compromise, authentication anomalies, suspicious connections, and other activity that may represent cybersecurity threats.
  • Document security incidents accurately by recording investigation findings, relevant evidence, observations, timestamps, and actions taken within the organization's incident management system.
  • Assist with security incident investigations by collecting relevant information from available security tools and systems and providing clear findings to senior analysts or incident response teams.
  • Support vulnerability assessment activities by assisting with basic vulnerability checks, gathering security information, and helping security teams understand potential weaknesses within IT environments.
  • Assist with threat assessment and security analytics by collecting and reviewing basic security data that can help identify emerging threats, recurring attack patterns, and areas requiring additional attention.
  • Follow security compliance frameworks and procedures while performing monitoring, investigation, documentation, and escalation activities to ensure that security operations remain aligned with organizational standards.
  • Escalate suspicious or high-risk activity to appropriate cybersecurity teams when an event requires advanced investigation, incident response, threat hunting, or remediation.
  • Maintain accurate operational records by keeping incident documentation, investigation notes, alert information, and security observations organized and up to date.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and IT teams to communicate findings, support incident resolution, and ensure that relevant security information reaches the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Continuously develop cybersecurity knowledge by staying informed about emerging threats, attack techniques, security technologies, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Candidates should have a solid understanding of basic cybersecurity concepts, including common threats, vulnerabilities, malware, unauthorized access, network attacks, and security monitoring principles.
  • Security Monitoring: Familiarity with security alerts, log analysis, event monitoring, and suspicious activity detection is important for effectively performing the responsibilities of an L1 cybersecurity analyst.
  • Incident Management: Candidates should understand the fundamentals of security incident identification, triage, documentation, escalation, and response, even if their previous exposure comes from academic projects or training.
  • Security Compliance: Knowledge of security compliance and cybersecurity frameworks is a mandatory skill area for this position. Candidates should understand why organizations use security standards, policies, controls, and compliance processes.
  • Log Analysis: Basic ability to review and interpret system, application, authentication, endpoint, or network logs is highly valuable for identifying anomalies and potential indicators of compromise.
  • Vulnerability Assessment: Candidates should have an understanding of basic vulnerability concepts, including how security weaknesses can be identified, assessed, documented, and prioritized for remediation.
  • Networking Knowledge: A foundational understanding of networking concepts such as IP addresses, protocols, ports, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, firewalls, and network traffic can help analysts interpret suspicious network activity.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong attention to detail and logical reasoning are essential for examining security events, connecting relevant information, identifying patterns, and determining whether activity requires escalation.
  • Communication & Documentation: Good written and verbal communication skills are important because analysts must clearly document incidents, communicate findings, maintain investigation records, and collaborate with other security and IT professionals.
  • Learning & Adaptability: Cybersecurity threats continuously evolve, so candidates should demonstrate curiosity, willingness to learn new security technologies, ability to follow established procedures, and commitment to continuously improving their technical knowledge.

Expected Salary

For a Cyber Security Analyst L1 position in Mumbai, a realistic market salary range is approximately ₹3.5 lakh to ₹7 lakh per annum for entry-level professionals, depending on cybersecurity knowledge, certifications, technical skills, and relevant internship or project experience. Candidates with practical SOC exposure, security monitoring experience, or certifications such as Security+ or equivalent foundational cybersecurity credentials may have stronger opportunities toward the upper end of the range.
