Job Description

SLB is hiring an Associate Software Engineer in Coimbatore as part of its Digital Technology & Research organization. The position provides an opportunity for software professionals to work on enterprise-level SAP development and business application solutions while collaborating with development leads, functional analysts, and technical architects. The engineer will be responsible for understanding business requirements, translating them into technical solutions, developing new functionality, enhancing existing applications, and supporting the complete software development lifecycle. A key aspect of the role is understanding how SLB's business operates, particularly in areas related to supply chain and operations, and using that knowledge to build applications that address real organizational requirements. This makes the role suitable for candidates interested in enterprise software development and technology-driven business transformation.

The Associate Software Engineer will work within established development standards, frameworks, technical governance practices, and engineering guidelines. Responsibilities include preparing technical specifications, discussing designs with technical architects, developing application components, conducting technical and functional testing, and deploying code across Test, Quality, and Production environments. The role provides exposure to the full progression of enterprise software delivery rather than limiting engineers to coding alone. By collaborating with functional and technical stakeholders, engineers can develop an understanding of how software applications support business processes, supply chain operations, and organizational workflows. This combination of SAP development, business analysis, testing, deployment, and technical governance can help early-career professionals build strong foundations in enterprise application engineering.

SLB operates as a global technology company focused on developing solutions that support the energy industry and contribute to a more balanced energy future. Joining its Digital Technology & Research organization provides an opportunity to work in a multicultural and globally distributed environment while learning from professionals across different technical and functional disciplines. The company emphasizes continuous learning, collaboration, systems thinking, initiative, and professional development. For candidates with an engineering or computer science background and an interest in SAP, enterprise applications, supply chain technology, software development, and business process automation, this Associate Software Engineer position can offer valuable exposure to international projects and modern enterprise technology practices.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop SAP-based business applications by working with development leads and functional analysts to implement new functionality and enhancements according to approved business requirements.
  • Understand business and functional requirements by interacting with relevant stakeholders and learning how SLB's business processes, supply chain operations, and organizational workflows translate into application requirements.
  • Follow established development standards and frameworks to ensure that application code and technical solutions comply with SLB's engineering practices and enterprise technology guidelines.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications for assigned development work and collaborate with Technical Architects to review proposed solutions, clarify technical decisions, and ensure alignment with system architecture.
  • Develop new software functionality and enhancements for SAP applications, focusing on reliable implementation, maintainable code, and alignment with functional and technical requirements.
  • Perform technical and functional testing to verify application behavior, identify defects, validate business requirements, and ensure that developed solutions are ready for subsequent environments.
  • Manage application deployments across environments by supporting the movement of code through Test, Quality, and Production environments in accordance with established release and governance processes.
  • Collaborate with development leads and functional analysts throughout the software development lifecycle to resolve technical questions, clarify requirements, and deliver business-focused application solutions.
  • Apply technical governance practices by following approved standards, best practices, development methodologies, documentation requirements, and quality processes throughout implementation.
  • Investigate and resolve application issues by analyzing technical problems, understanding business impact, identifying appropriate solutions, and collaborating with relevant teams when additional expertise is required.
  • Contribute to continuous application improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance existing functionality, improve application performance, simplify processes, and strengthen the overall user experience.
  • Work effectively with globally distributed teams by communicating project updates, coordinating development activities, and independently managing assigned responsibilities while maintaining delivery commitments.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or an MBA specializing in Operations/Supply Chain, as specified for the role. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering combined with a Master's degree in Operations/Supply Chain may also be eligible.
  • SAP & Enterprise Application Interest: Candidates should have an interest in SAP development, enterprise software, business applications, and digital transformation, with the willingness to learn SLB's specific technology environment and development frameworks.
  • Software Development Fundamentals: A sound understanding of programming, software development processes, application architecture, testing, debugging, and the Software Development Life Cycle is beneficial for performing development responsibilities effectively.
  • Supply Chain or Operations Knowledge: Experience or academic exposure to supply chain, operations, business processes, or related functional areas is valuable because the role involves understanding business requirements and translating them into application solutions.
  • Business Application Experience: Previous experience implementing or supporting business applications in a functional or technical capacity is desirable, although it is not necessarily mandatory for suitable candidates.
  • Technical Documentation: Candidates should be comfortable preparing technical specifications, documenting development approaches, communicating implementation details, and working with technical architects during solution reviews.
  • Testing & Deployment Knowledge: Understanding of software testing and application deployment processes is important, particularly for supporting technical and functional testing and moving software through Test, Quality, and Production environments.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required because the position involves collaboration with development leads, functional analysts, architects, business stakeholders, and globally distributed teams.
  • Independent Working Ability: Candidates should be comfortable working in a global distributed environment with limited supervision, taking ownership of assigned responsibilities and managing priorities effectively.
  • Professional Competencies: SLB is looking for individuals who are self-driven, proactive, analytical, and systems-oriented, with the curiosity to understand both technology and business processes and the ability to continuously learn.

Expected Salary

For an Associate Software Engineer role in Coimbatore, a realistic market salary range is approximately ₹4 lakh to ₹8 lakh per annum for early-career professionals, depending on technical skills, educational qualifications, SAP knowledge, and relevant project or internship experience.
