🔖 Job Type Full-Time
Description
Emerson is hiring a Software Test Engineer in Pune to contribute to the quality, reliability, and performance of its software products. This role sits within the Development Engineering function and combines manual testing, test automation, web application testing, API testing, and software validation. The engineer will be involved in developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts while also performing structured manual testing across different stages of the software development lifecycle. The position is suitable for candidates who want to build a career in software testing, QA automation, SDET, quality engineering, and test automation. With exposure to global engineering teams and real-world industrial software products, the role offers an opportunity to develop practical experience in modern testing methodologies while contributing directly to product quality and customer reliability.
A major focus of this position is building and maintaining automated testing capabilities for software applications and supporting test infrastructure used by engineering teams. The engineer may work with technologies and tools such as Selenium, Katalon, programming languages, APIs, and test automation frameworks to create repeatable and reliable test scenarios. Testing responsibilities can span functional testing, regression testing, integration testing, performance testing, smoke testing, and API testing, depending on product requirements. The role also involves identifying defects, documenting test results, troubleshooting failures, and collaborating with developers and other engineering stakeholders to resolve quality issues. Candidates will need to understand how software behaves across different environments and be comfortable switching between automated and manual validation when required.
The Software Test Engineer will also contribute to the broader testing infrastructure and processes that support Emerson's engineering organization. This includes maintaining test environments, supporting test laboratories, improving automation coverage, and helping teams establish efficient and repeatable validation processes. Because Emerson works across global engineering environments, the role requires strong communication, structured problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate with teams working on different aspects of a product. For fresh graduates and early-career engineers, this opportunity can provide a strong foundation in QA engineering, automated testing, API validation, defect management, software quality assurance, and industrial technology. The combination of automation and manual testing makes this role particularly relevant for candidates looking for Software Test Engineer jobs in Pune and entry-level testing opportunities in India.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop Automated Test Scripts: Create, execute, and maintain automated test scripts for software applications, ensuring important functional and regression scenarios can be validated efficiently and repeatedly.
- Perform Manual Testing: Execute structured manual test cases to validate application functionality, user workflows, integrations, and expected behavior across different software releases and environments.
- Conduct Functional Testing: Verify that software features perform according to defined requirements and identify unexpected behavior before applications are released to customers or internal users.
- Perform API Testing: Test application programming interfaces and backend services to validate requests, responses, data handling, integrations, error conditions, and overall service reliability.
- Build Test Automation: Use appropriate automation technologies such as Selenium, Katalon, or similar frameworks to increase test coverage and reduce repetitive testing effort.
- Execute Regression Testing: Maintain regression test suites and execute them during software updates to ensure newly introduced changes do not negatively affect existing functionality.
- Perform Integration Testing: Validate interactions between different software components, services, modules, and systems to identify integration problems before they reach production environments.
- Identify & Track Defects: Detect software defects during testing, document clear reproduction steps and expected results, and work with development teams to ensure issues are investigated and resolved.
- Support Test Infrastructure: Assist with maintaining testing environments, laboratories, tools, and supporting infrastructure required by engineering teams for reliable and repeatable software validation.
- Conduct Performance & Smoke Testing: Execute appropriate performance, smoke, and other validation tests to quickly identify critical application issues and assess software behavior under relevant conditions.
- Collaborate With Global Teams: Work with developers, QA professionals, product teams, and global engineering stakeholders to communicate testing results, discuss defects, and improve product quality.
- Improve Testing Processes: Identify opportunities to increase automation coverage, improve test execution efficiency, strengthen documentation, and introduce better quality assurance practices across the development lifecycle.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Educational Qualification: Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Electronics, or another relevant engineering discipline. Equivalent technical qualifications may also be considered.
- Freshers & Experienced Candidates: The opening is suitable for both fresh graduates and experienced candidates, making it relevant to applicants beginning their careers as well as professionals with previous software testing exposure.
- Software Testing Fundamentals: Candidates should understand fundamental QA concepts including test cases, test scenarios, defect lifecycle, regression testing, functional testing, integration testing, smoke testing, and software development lifecycle processes.
- Automation Testing Knowledge: Familiarity with test automation concepts and practical exposure to tools such as Selenium, Katalon, or comparable automation frameworks will be valuable for developing and maintaining automated test suites.
- Programming Skills: Basic to intermediate programming knowledge is important for creating automation scripts, understanding application behavior, troubleshooting test failures, and working effectively with development teams.
- API Testing: Understanding of REST APIs and experience with API testing tools or techniques will help candidates validate backend services and troubleshoot application integration issues.
- Manual Testing Experience: Candidates should be comfortable designing and executing manual test cases and using structured testing approaches to validate software functionality before and after application changes.
- Defect Management: Knowledge of defect tracking and reporting practices is required, including the ability to document issues accurately, communicate their impact, and provide sufficient information for developers to reproduce and fix problems.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: The position requires attention to detail and the ability to investigate unexpected software behavior, identify root causes, analyze test results, and determine appropriate next steps.
- Communication & Teamwork: Strong written and verbal communication skills are important because the engineer will work with development teams, testing teams, and global engineering stakeholders while documenting results and discussing technical issues.
