Job Description
Microsoft is hiring a Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to join its Azure Storage team, one of the most critical and high-scale cloud platforms in the world. Azure Storage powers massive distributed systems handling exabytes of data and is designed to scale to zettabyte levels. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of cloud storage services used by millions of customers globally. As part of this team, you will contribute to building highly available and secure storage systems that support modern applications and digital transformation.
The role combines strong software development skills with advanced testing and quality engineering practices. You will design and implement automation frameworks, develop test tools, and execute performance and scalability tests. The position requires deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and system-level testing. You will analyze system bottlenecks, optimize performance, and ensure data integrity across compute, storage, and networking layers.
In addition to technical execution, this role emphasizes ownership, collaboration, and innovation. As a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), you will monitor system health, respond to issues, and drive resolution of complex production challenges. Roles & Responsibilities

Analyze product requirements and design comprehensive test plans and test cases for cloud-based systems.

Develop and maintain automation frameworks for functional, integration, performance, and end-to-end testing.

Execute performance, scalability, reliability, and stress testing for distributed systems.

Identify system bottlenecks, latency issues, and optimize resource utilization across cloud infrastructure.

Build testing tools and frameworks to streamline execution and reporting processes.

Collaborate with engineering teams to identify, track, and resolve defects through root cause analysis.

Monitor system performance and act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to handle incidents.

Ensure high availability, security, and compliance of cloud storage services.

Participate in Agile development cycles and contribute to continuous improvement of testing practices.

Drive innovation in quality engineering by adopting modern testing strategies and tools.
Requirements & Eligibility

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

1+ years of experience in software development or testing with programming skills.

Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Strong understanding of software testing principles and automation strategies.

Experience in designing and developing automation frameworks and test tools.

Knowledge of distributed systems, cloud computing, or large-scale systems is a plus.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot complex issues.

Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and global team environment.

Understanding of performance testing, scalability testing, and system reliability concepts.

Good communication skills to interact with stakeholders and engineering teams.
