Job Description

The SW Test Engineer role at Amdocs is a specialized quality engineering position focused on validating mission-critical mainframe systems used by global telecom and enterprise clients. Roles & Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and execute system testing activities for mainframe batch and online applications.

• Coordinate testing priorities to ensure complete coverage of business-critical scenarios within defined timelines.

• Perform hands-on testing using JCL, COBOL, VSAM, CICS, and mainframe batch processing environments.

• Analyze test results and system behavior to identify defects, performance issues, and optimization opportunities.

• Prepare and manage test data for batch cycles, ensuring accuracy and traceability of test execution.

• Resolve abends and execution errors by performing detailed root-cause analysis and validation.

• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to communicate test findings, risks, and recommendations.

• Maintain high-quality test documentation, testware, and work products in line with standards and compliance needs.

• Support automation initiatives using mainframe-compatible testing tools and scripts.

• Mentor new team members and promote reuse of testing assets, tools, and best practices across projects.

Requirements & Eligibility

• 2–6 years of hands-on experience in mainframe testing with strong exposure to batch and online systems.

• Proficiency in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, and CICS with practical experience in real-time project environments.

• Hands-on experience with DB2, IMS, or IDMS for data validation and backend testing.

• Strong working knowledge of batch schedulers such as ESP or CA7 for job scheduling and monitoring.

• Proven experience in resolving abends, batch failures, and execution errors independently.

• Hands-on exposure to Connect Direct (C:D) and MQ Series for file transfers and messaging validation.

• Solid understanding of the System Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and defect management processes.

• Ability to independently design quality test cases and execute testing with minimal supervision.

• Exposure to automation tools like QTP or REXX on mainframe platforms is an added advantage.

• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills to act as a bridge between teams and customers.

Expected Salary

For an SW Test Engineer with 2–6 years of mainframe testing experience in Pune, the expected salary typically ranges between ₹6 LPA to ₹12 LPA. Compensation may vary based on depth of mainframe expertise, automation exposure, and client-facing responsibilities.
