Citi is embarking on an exciting journey to transform how generative AI is adopted across the organization. As a Python Software Engineer (Vice President) for Generative AI Products and Platform, you will play a pivotal role in building the core backend infrastructure for Citi Assist, the next-generation AI-powered assistant designed to empower every Citi employee worldwide. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, scaling, and maintaining backend services in Python with a strong emphasis on clean code, testability, and performance. Beyond coding, you will take ownership of features end-to-end, ensuring seamless collaboration across engineering, DevOps, and security teams. Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance Python backend services for Citi’s Generative AI platforms.

• Take ownership of features from design to deployment, ensuring functionality, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

• Implement security-first engineering practices to address the unique challenges of AI safety, data privacy, and compliance.

• Collaborate with peers on code reviews, debugging, and knowledge sharing to maintain a high-quality engineering culture.

• Work with Kubernetes (OpenShift), Postgres, and CI/CD pipelines to deploy and manage applications at scale.

• Partner with AI research, product, and infrastructure teams to integrate LLMs and generative AI workflows into production.

• Proactively identify performance bottlenecks, technical risks, and architecture gaps, providing solutions that align with enterprise standards.

• Champion best practices such as clean code, test-driven development, CI/CD automation, and observability.

• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

• Ensure timely communication of project updates, risks, and milestones to stakeholders and leadership.

Requirements & Eligibility

• Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Experience: 10–15 years in software development, with deep expertise in Python and backend engineering.

• Strong background in Node.js, TypeScript, React, Next.js, or Go/Java for full-stack and backend integrations.

• Proven expertise in Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native platforms (OpenShift preferred).

• Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Tekton, Harness, or similar tools.

• Experience with data pipelines and ETL frameworks (Airflow, Dagster).

• Familiarity with Postgres and relational database design.

• Hands-on exposure to Generative AI, LLMs, and AI model integration in real-world use cases.

• Strong understanding of software design patterns, clean architecture, and testable code.

• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

• Ability to work in hybrid agile teams, balancing innovation with the challenges of a global enterprise environment.

Expected Salary

For this Vice President role in Pune, India, the salary typically ranges from ₹55 LPA to ₹75 LPA, depending on experience, expertise, and certifications in AI and cloud-native platforms. Globally, similar roles at Citi align in the range of $160,000 to $190,000 annually. The package may also include performance bonuses, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
