Job Description:

As a backend engineer, you will be working on the core layers of BrowserStack’s products, including web application layers, distributed backend systems, and high-volume streaming technologies. The role involves architecting solutions, writing clean and efficient code, leading technical discussions, and driving improvements in frameworks and processes. You will also gain exposure to advanced concepts like scalability, asynchronous design patterns, containerization, and continuous integration practices.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Write clean, efficient, and scalable backend code, ensuring adherence to coding best practices and standards.

• Participate actively in code reviews, system architecture, and design discussions, contributing to high-quality engineering decisions.

• Work on multi-tier distributed applications that support millions of daily tests across global data centers.

• Develop, enhance, and optimize database schemas while writing efficient SQL queries for high-volume systems.

• Take ownership of features end-to-end, from design to deployment, ensuring accountability and timely delivery.

• Identify areas of improvement in frameworks, processes, and tools, driving innovation and continuous enhancement.

• Research and integrate new technologies into BrowserStack’s systems to meet evolving product requirements.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to debug complex issues across different OS, kernels, APIs, and networking layers.

• Develop and maintain clear, concise technical documentation to support design and development work.

• Ensure all software is unit tested, peer-reviewed, and regularly integrated into CI/CD pipelines for consistent delivery.

Requirements & Eligibility:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical discipline.

• 6 months – 2 years of experience in backend engineering or related software development roles.

• Strong proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Ruby, Node.js, Python, AppleScript, or Unix Shell.

• Familiarity with one compiled language such as Java, Go, or C to build robust backend services.

• Good understanding of operating systems, kernels, file systems, APIs, and networking concepts.

• Ability to work effectively on both Windows and Linux platforms below the application layer.

• Experience with relational databases and the ability to write efficient SQL queries.

• Strong problem-solving skills, with creativity in diagnosing and resolving issues.

• A proactive, startup-driven mindset with willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute at speed.

• Exposure to open-source projects or contributions will be considered a plus.

Expected Salary:

Software Engineers (Backend) at BrowserStack in Mumbai typically earn between ₹8.0 LPA to ₹14.0 LPA, depending on technical expertise, academic background, and prior experience. Candidates with strong backend architecture or distributed system experience may command higher compensation.
