UPS – Senior Software Quality Engineer

Job Description:

UPS, a Fortune Global 500 logistics and technology organization, is hiring a Senior Software Quality Engineer to join its Information Technology team in Chennai. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality, stability, and performance of enterprise-grade applications that support global logistics and digital operations. As a senior QA professional, you will design advanced automation frameworks and implement scalable testing strategies that ensure reliable software delivery across complex enterprise systems.

The role emphasizes strong expertise in Katalon Studio for automation testing across web, mobile, and API platforms. You will develop reusable automation utilities, integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, and maintain end-to-end testing workflows. Alongside automation, you will also perform comprehensive manual testing activities including functional, regression, exploratory, and system testing. Your work will directly contribute to improving product reliability, reducing production defects, and maintaining high standards of software quality.

As a senior member of the QA team, you will collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and business stakeholders to define testing strategies and ensure complete test coverage across microservices and enterprise platforms. You will mentor junior engineers, promote best practices in test automation, and continuously evaluate new testing tools and methodologies. Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Design and implement automated test cases using Katalon Studio for web UI, mobile, and API testing scenarios.

2. Develop reusable automation frameworks, custom utilities, and testing libraries to improve test execution efficiency.

3. Perform comprehensive manual testing including functional, regression, system, and exploratory testing activities.

4. Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.

5. Conduct API automation testing using tools like Postman, RestAssured, and Katalon API testing modules.

6. Perform backend data validation using SQL queries to ensure database accuracy and data consistency.

7. Analyze automation failures, log defects in tracking systems, and coordinate with development teams for root cause resolution.

8. Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, and defect reports to ensure complete test coverage.

9. Mentor junior QA engineers and promote best practices in automation frameworks and testing methodologies.

10. Continuously evaluate and adopt modern QA tools, frameworks, and testing practices to improve testing efficiency.

Requirements & Eligibility:

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.

2. 7–10+ years of experience in software testing with at least 2+ years of hands-on experience using Katalon Studio for automation.

3. Strong programming or scripting experience using Groovy or Java for developing custom automation functions.

4. Solid manual testing experience including functional testing, regression testing, UI validation, and exploratory testing.

5. Hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver and automation frameworks using TestNG or JUnit concepts.

6. Experience with REST API testing tools such as Postman, RestAssured, or Katalon API testing frameworks.

7. Familiarity with CI/CD tools including Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.

8. Experience with test management tools such as JIRA, TestRail, Zephyr, or qTest.

9. Knowledge of modern automation tools like Cypress, Playwright, or mobile automation tools like Appium is an advantage.

10. Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies, microservices testing, and modern DevOps practices.

Expected Salary:

For a Senior Software Quality Engineer with 7–10 years of experience in Chennai’s enterprise IT and logistics technology sector, the typical salary range generally falls between ₹15 LPA to ₹28 LPA depending on expertise in automation frameworks, CI/CD integration, and enterprise application testing. Candidates with advanced automation architecture skills and strong experience in Katalon and microservices testing may receive compensation toward the higher end of industry benchmarks.
