Program Overview
Under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), Volvo India offers a structured one-year apprenticeship program designed to train fresh engineering graduates and make them industry-ready. This program provides hands-on exposure within the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) department, focusing on real-time industrial operations, process optimization, and automation projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for young engineers to gain practical exposure in a global manufacturing environment while contributing to meaningful production and process improvement initiatives.
Purpose of the Role
The objective is to train Graduate Engineers by involving them in:

Process documentation and standardization
-
Tools and fixture design
-
Time and method studies
-
Automation and IoT-related projects
-
SAP and ERP-based manufacturing workflows
GATs will gain on-the-job learning while supporting operational excellence within the department.
Key Responsibilities
-
Prepare process documentation including SOPs, Work Instructions, PFMEAs, and Process Sheets under ME guidance.

Design and draft fixtures, pallets, lifting tackles, and assembly gadgets using AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks, Pro-E, or similar 3D tools.

Conduct layout studies and propose modifications to improve manufacturing efficiency.

Perform stopwatch time studies for line balancing and standard time analysis.

Prepare Manufacturing BOM, Picklists, Work Centers, and Routing in SAP.

Support engineering change management activities across products and processes.
-
Work on small automation projects related to F4T and IoT initiatives.
-
Attend shop-floor meetings to understand production issues and propose solutions.
-
Raise Purchase Requisitions (PRs) for tools and follow up with suppliers.

Communicate process documentation clearly to industrial workers.
-
Follow safety standards and maintain discipline in learning and output delivery.
Required Knowledge & Skills
-
Strong foundation in Engineering fundamentals.
-
Knowledge of Industrial Engineering concepts (Layouts, Methods Study, Time & Motion Study).
-
Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
-
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and at least one 3D software (CATIA, SolidWorks, Pro-E).

Basic understanding of ERP systems and SAP exposure (preferred).

Awareness of F4T and IoT concepts (basic level).

Strong communication, creativity, and analytical mindset.

Full-time Bachelor’s Degree (First Class, >60%) in:

Mechatronics (Preferred)

Mechanical Engineering

Production / Industrial Engineering
-
Electronics & Instrumentation (Second preference)

Strong exposure to MS Office and CAD tools.

Expected Stipend
Graduate Apprentice Trainees under NATS typically receive a stipend ranging between ₹15,000 – ₹20,000 per month, depending on company policy and program structure.
