Job Description

Wipro is looking for a Trainee to join its software testing and quality assurance team in Chennai. In this role, you will support testing activities for software platforms, products, and enterprise solutions delivered to global clients. As a Trainee in the testing domain, you will gain hands-on experience in test case design, software validation, defect tracking, and automation testing practices. This role provides an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates or early-career professionals to build expertise in software quality assurance and testing methodologies.

The position involves working closely with development teams and quality assurance engineers to ensure that software products meet defined business and technical requirements. You will participate in creating test plans, executing test cases, and documenting defects while ensuring that the product performs reliably before deployment. The role also includes involvement in user acceptance testing (UAT) processes, where you will help validate that applications meet client expectations and functional specifications.

Additionally, the Trainee will contribute to improving testing efficiency by supporting automation initiatives and implementing structured testing frameworks. You will gain exposure to modern testing practices such as model-based testing, test lifecycle automation, and reporting dashboards. Working in Wipro’s collaborative technology environment, you will help ensure that delivered solutions meet quality standards and comply with project-level service level agreements (SLAs) and customer expectations.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Understand business requirements and technical specifications to design appropriate test cases for software applications.

• Assist in preparing detailed test plans that align with functional requirements and software quality standards.

• Execute manual test cases and record test results to verify that software systems function as expected.

• Collaborate with development teams to identify defects and ensure proper documentation of bug reports.

• Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities to validate product functionality before deployment.

• Develop automation scripts using tools such as VB macros, GUI automation tools, or scheduling frameworks.

• Monitor and track defects while ensuring they are reported according to project standards and documentation guidelines.

• Generate testing reports and dashboards to communicate test progress and results to stakeholders.

• Maintain accurate updates in project management systems and testing repositories.

• Provide feedback on product usability, functionality, and performance to improve overall software quality.

Requirements & Eligibility

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Basic understanding of software testing methodologies, quality assurance processes, and test case design.

• Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) concepts.

• Familiarity with test case documentation, defect tracking systems, and test execution frameworks.

• Exposure to automation tools or scripting languages such as VB macros or GUI automation tools is an advantage.

• Basic knowledge of user acceptance testing (UAT) processes and software validation techniques.

• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills for identifying software defects and functional issues.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with development teams and stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple testing tasks and meet deadlines within project timelines.

• Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality testing outcomes.

Expected Salary

The typical salary for a Trainee or entry-level Software Testing Engineer in large IT services companies in India generally ranges between ₹3.5 LPA to ₹6 LPA, depending on educational background, technical skills, and project requirements. Candidates with additional certifications in software testing or automation tools may receive higher compensation and faster career progression within the organization.
