Job Description

Nokia is hiring a Test Engineering Technician to join its production and engineering operations team in Chennai. In this role, you will support testing operations for advanced communication technologies, including 4G and 5G radio systems. As part of Nokia’s manufacturing and connectivity solutions ecosystem, you will work with RF testers and advanced testing instruments to ensure product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency. The position focuses on monitoring testing performance metrics, supporting production processes, and ensuring that testing systems operate at optimal levels.

The role involves overseeing tester productivity, monitoring yield performance, and analyzing false call rates across RF testing systems. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers and technical teams to identify performance gaps and ensure that key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved. This includes supporting maintenance activities for RF testing equipment, troubleshooting hardware and calibration issues, and ensuring smooth tester changeovers for different production requirements.

Additionally, the Test Engineering Technician will participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes and support large-scale manufacturing validation activities. You will assist in installing new testers, validating test procedures, and ensuring production readiness for new products. By collaborating with global and local teams, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance testing accuracy, reduce downtime, and optimize production efficiency within Nokia’s advanced telecommunications manufacturing environment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor tester productivity, yield rates, and false call rates to ensure testing systems meet defined production KPIs.

  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting activities for RF testers and testing instruments used in 4G and 5G communication technologies.

  • Assist in performing tester changeovers, including IC programming and test configuration adjustments to support production demands.

  • Maintain spare parts inventory and manage critical spare shortages to reduce equipment downtime and maintain testing efficiency.

  • Perform calibration checks and fine-tuning of RF testing platforms to improve system reliability and minimize false call rates.

  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by installing and validating new testers and ensuring readiness for mass production.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to RF filters, TRX PCBA, and radio unit testing equipment.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify root causes of testing issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Support global teams in installing and validating testing systems across manufacturing sites.

  • Prepare performance reports and operational updates related to testing metrics, system performance, and production readiness.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.

  • 3–5 years of experience working in manufacturing or electronics testing environments.

  • Hands-on experience working with testing equipment such as SPEA FPT, Keysight ICT, and Data IO PSV5000/7000.

  • Knowledge of RF testing processes and troubleshooting techniques used in telecommunications hardware testing.

  • Experience working with 4G/5G communication technologies and radio frequency testing equipment.

  • Familiarity with tester installation, maintenance, calibration, and performance optimization processes.

  • Experience supporting global teams in troubleshooting equipment issues and managing testing infrastructure.

  • Ability to analyze testing data and identify issues related to yield performance and production efficiency.

  • Knowledge of equipment asset transfer processes including tester validation, packaging, and shipping.

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills for diagnosing hardware testing issues.

  • Good teamwork and communication skills required to collaborate with engineering and production teams.

Expected Salary

The typical salary for a Test Engineering Technician in the telecommunications and electronics manufacturing sector in India generally ranges between β‚Ή5 LPA to β‚Ή10 LPA, depending on experience, expertise in RF testing, and familiarity with advanced testing equipment. Professionals with strong experience in 4G/5G testing platforms and manufacturing operations may receive higher compensation along with additional benefits and career growth opportunities.
