Job Description

Cartesia is focused on pioneering the next generation of AI—highly interactive, on-device intelligence capable of processing and reasoning over massive, multimodal data streams comprising text, audio, and video ﹣ even at the scale of trillion-scale tokens. The Intern (Software Engineer) role provides a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and real-world product engineering. During your internship, you'll bridge academic and applied research by translating foundational AI breakthroughs—such as state-space models (SSMs)—into robust, scalable solutions. Expect to work closely with Cartesia’s research teams and product engineers to transform advanced model architectures into performant infrastructures ready for real-world deployment. You’ll also build high-throughput data processing pipelines and evaluation systems that support training and serving of their large-scale foundation models General Catalyst Jobs.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Inference Stack Development
   Design and build highly efficient, low-latency, scalable systems for serving Cartesia’s SSM foundation models.

2. Research-to-Product Translation
   Partner with research and product teams to convert experimental AI models into production-ready infrastructure with engineering rigor.

3. Data Processing & Evaluation
   Implement data pipelines and evaluation infrastructure with high parallelism to support model training, testing, and monitoring.

4. Code Quality Commitment
   Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code, ensuring readability and extensibility within complex codebases.

5. Technology Adaptation
   Quickly learn and adapt to backend technologies such as Go and Python, and frontend systems like Next.js, as needed General Catalyst Jobs.

6. Distributed Systems Exposure
   (Bonus) Work with components of distributed systems demanding high performance, reliability, and observability.

7. Machine Learning Interface
   (Bonus) Gain experience working with generative models and machine learning frameworks—enhancing your understanding of model serving pipelines.

Requirements & Eligibility

1. Academic Background
   Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a degree program in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

2. Engineering Proficiency
   Strong programming skills with the ability to navigate large, complex codebases and maintain engineering discipline.

3. Code Craftsmanship
   A demonstrated eye for writing clean and maintainable code—seeking lasting quality over quick fixes.

4. Adaptive Learner
   Comfortable swiftly picking up new technologies and working fluently with backend stacks like Go and Python, and frontend frameworks like Next.js General Catalyst Jobs.

5. Distributed Systems Awareness
