Job Description

Virtusa is looking for an experienced Cypress QA Automation Engineer to join its Digital Quality Assurance team in Pune or Chennai. As a global technology consulting and digital engineering company, Virtusa works with enterprises across multiple industries to deliver scalable digital solutions and high-quality software products. In this role, the QA Automation Engineer will focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced test automation frameworks that ensure reliable and efficient software delivery. The position requires strong expertise in Cypress automation for web applications, APIs, and end-to-end system validation.

The Cypress QA Automation Engineer will work closely with development teams, product owners, and quality assurance professionals to validate business requirements through comprehensive functional and automated testing strategies. The role involves designing test cases for user interfaces, backend systems, and APIs while ensuring seamless data validation and integration testing. Engineers will build scalable automation frameworks using Cypress best practices, enabling efficient regression testing and continuous integration within the software development lifecycle.

This role also focuses on improving overall software quality by identifying opportunities to automate manual test scenarios and optimizing testing processes. The engineer will analyze system workflows, develop automated scripts for critical user journeys, and ensure that applications function reliably across different environments. By combining expertise in automation testing, functional testing, and API validation, the Cypress QA Automation Engineer will play a key role in maintaining product quality and delivering high-performing enterprise applications.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Design and execute functional test cases to validate application behavior across user interfaces, backend services, and APIs.

2. Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Cypress for web applications, API validation, and end-to-end system testing.

3. Build and maintain scalable automation frameworks following Cypress best practices to support reliable and reusable testing processes.

4. Perform backend and API testing to validate system integrations, service communication, and data flow between application components.

5. Identify manual test cases that can be automated and transition them into automated scripts to improve testing efficiency.

6. Collaborate with development teams and product stakeholders to ensure that application features meet functional and performance requirements.

7. Execute regression testing to ensure that new code changes do not affect existing application functionality.

8. Analyze system behavior and identify potential defects or performance issues during testing cycles.

9. Maintain proper documentation of test cases, automation frameworks, and testing results to ensure traceability and compliance with QA standards.

10. Continuously improve automation strategies by adopting modern testing methodologies and tools to enhance testing efficiency.

Requirements & Eligibility

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

2. 8 to 10 years of professional experience in software testing with strong exposure to both functional and automation testing.

3. Extensive hands-on experience with Cypress automation frameworks for UI testing, API testing, and end-to-end application validation.

4. Strong knowledge of web technologies including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to effectively test modern web applications.

5. Experience with API testing tools and methodologies to validate backend services and system integrations.

6. Understanding of test automation framework design and best practices for building reusable and scalable test suites.

7. Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

8. Strong analytical and debugging skills with the ability to identify root causes of application defects.

9. Experience with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines used for automated test execution.

10. Excellent communication and documentation skills to effectively report testing results and collaborate with development teams.

The average salary for a Cypress QA Automation Engineer with 8–10 years of experience in India generally ranges between ₹18 LPA to ₹35 LPA, depending on expertise in automation frameworks, enterprise testing environments, and experience with modern testing tools.
