Job Description

As a Senior Quality Engineer at Mastercard, you will contribute to building an advanced quality ecosystem that accelerates time-to-market while maintaining world-class reliability, performance, and user experience. This role operates at the intersection of software development and testing, requiring strong technical depth, architectural understanding, and the ability to design robust automation solutions. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams delivering payment transaction services that power secure, scalable, and intelligent digital commerce. Your work will support Mastercard’s mission to create seamless, trusted payment experiences across consumers, merchants, issuers, and governments.

This position emphasizes a blend of manual testing excellence and deep automation engineering capabilities. You will drive the creation of quality strategies, design cross-browser automation, streamline user-journey validations, and ensure high-quality releases across multiple environments. With a focus on exploratory testing, code reviews, test infrastructure development, and CI/CD integration, you will play a critical role in ensuring end-to-end product stability. The role demands strong leadership, effective communication, and a passion for driving a culture of quality engineering and self-service automation within global teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement comprehensive quality strategies covering exploratory testing, automation, integration testing, and user-journey validation across digital platforms.

2. Participate in requirement reviews, backlog grooming, and story elaboration to ensure acceptance criteria and test expectations are clearly defined.

3. Design and execute automation scripts for web platforms, cross-device/browser scenarios, and integration flows using modern test frameworks.

4. Conduct manual exploratory testing to identify complex functional, usability, and security issues early in the development process.

5. Oversee defect management cycles, quality status reporting, risk assessment, and escalation handling to maintain product integrity.

6. Document detailed test plans, test scenarios, and acceptance criteria using JIRA, Rally, or other lifecycle management tools.

7. Review project timelines and implementation plans to ensure testing activities align with delivery goals and release expectations.

8. Work closely with developers to perform code-level analysis, suggest improvements, and strengthen application architecture for better testability.

9. Contribute to CI/CD processes by integrating automation suites with Jenkins, Bamboo, or similar tools for continuous quality checks.

10. Build domain expertise over time and mentor junior team members by sharing insights, best practices, and technical guidance.

11. Support cross-functional teams by validating API behavior, mobile/web interfaces, and data warehouse outputs across environments.

12. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing frameworks, reduce manual effort, and strengthen overall quality processes.

Requirements & Eligibility

1. Strong understanding of Agile testing methodologies and hands-on experience with tools such as JIRA, Rally, Quality Center, or Rational Team Concert.

2. Expertise in unit testing, integration testing, and experience working with data virtualization tools to support complex environments.

3. Proven ability to test across diverse platforms including web applications, mobile interfaces, APIs (REST/SOAP), and reporting systems.

4. Deep technical knowledge of software design patterns, performance architectures, and scalable system design principles.

5. Strong development skills for building automation frameworks using Java or .NET, JUnit, Selenium, JBehave, SoapUI/Pro, Spring, REST, JSON, and XML.

6. Experience designing cross-browser and cross-device automation strategies with a focus on reliability and real-world coverage.

7. Ability to create robust acceptance tests, integration scripts, and CI-ready automation suites integrated with Jenkins, Bamboo, or equivalent tools.

8. Familiarity with code coverage platforms such as Sonar or Clover and experience embedding quality gates within pipelines.

9. Understanding of CI/CD concepts and experience contributing to continuous delivery pipelines in modern engineering setups.

10. Exposure to performance engineering concepts, enabling you to incorporate non-functional testing from the earliest development phases.

11. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, managers, and product owners across multiple teams.
