Job Description

As an IFC – QA Automation Engineer at Barclays, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance of complex financial technology platforms. This role sits within the Wholesale Onboarding and Group Financial Crime Operations domain, where accuracy, resilience, and control are essential. You will design and execute robust testing strategies across manual and automated testing streams, ensuring that applications supporting regulatory, AML, and transaction monitoring workflows perform flawlessly. Your work will directly protect customers, strengthen controls, and support Barclays’ mission to deliver secure and innovative financial solutions at scale.

In this position, you will leverage strong Java-based automation expertise combined with modern tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber, and REST API frameworks. You will be involved early in the development lifecycle, collaborating with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and define acceptance criteria. By embedding automation into CI/CD pipelines and continuously improving test coverage, you will help shift quality left and enable faster, more confident releases across cloud and enterprise platforms.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement comprehensive test strategies covering functional, regression, integration, and automation testing.

• Create, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using Java with Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber (BDD), and TestNG.

• Perform manual testing where required to validate complex business workflows and regulatory scenarios.

• Build and enhance REST API automation frameworks and validate backend integrations and data flows.

• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability, automation design, and overall code quality.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, contribute to design discussions, and define acceptance criteria.

• Conduct root cause analysis for defects and work closely with developers to ensure timely and effective resolution.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Maven, or Gradle.

• Promote a culture of quality, automation excellence, and knowledge sharing within the QA and engineering teams.

• Identify risks, strengthen controls, and contribute to governance initiatives aligned with Barclays’ risk and compliance standards.

Requirements & Eligibility

• Strong experience delivering both manual and automation testing solutions in complex, regulated business environments.

• Proficiency in Java for test automation with hands-on experience using Playwright, Selenium, Cucumber BDD, and TestNG.

• Solid understanding of REST API testing and experience building automation frameworks for API validation.

• Working knowledge of build and dependency management tools such as Maven or Gradle.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD, and familiarity with UNIX-based environments.

• Good understanding of Agile methodologies along with SDLC and STLC practices.

• Experience using test management and tracking tools such as JIRA and Xray.

• Domain exposure to Regulatory, AML, or Transaction Monitoring systems is highly desirable.

• Experience with performance testing tools like LoadRunner is a strong plus.

• Familiarity with API tools such as Swagger, Postman, or Insomnia is beneficial.
