Job Description:

Join Barclays Payments Merchant Services as an Automation Tester in Pune and become part of a team shaping the future of financial technology. In this role you will design, develop and run automated test suites using industry-standard tools such as Java (8+), Selenium and BDD frameworks (for example Cucumber). You’ll work closely with product owners, engineers and business analysts to translate requirements into resilient, reusable automated checks that validate functionality, performance and security. Your tests will help ensure that changes to payment systems deliver accurate, reliable outcomes for millions of customers and merchants while reducing manual regression effort and cycle time.

You will be accountable for building automation that supports DevOps and Agile delivery models. Expect to work across multiple projects simultaneously, planning and prioritizing test activities to align with sprint goals and release schedules. You’ll apply TDD/BDD approaches where appropriate, integrate automated suites into CI pipelines and use tools such as JIRA and Confluence for test management and traceability. This role emphasizes pragmatic automation — focusing on test reliability, maintainability, and meaningful coverage rather than quantity of scripts alone.

Beyond hands-on automation, the role asks you to contribute to test strategy and quality engineering practices across the area. You’ll participate in code reviews, mentor junior testers, and collaborate on platform-level improvements that increase observability and resilience of test environments. Continuous learning is central: you’ll explore new testing tools, help refine secure coding and unit testing habits, and help embed risk-aware testing across the delivery lifecycle so Barclays can safely innovate in high-volume, highly regulated payments systems.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Design, build and maintain robust automated test suites using Java (8+) and Selenium to validate web and service-level functionality, ensuring tests are modular and reusable.

• Implement BDD-style acceptance tests (for example with Cucumber) and translate business requirements into human-readable feature files that map to automation steps.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and schedule runs to support frequent deployments, providing quick feedback to development teams.

• Execute functional, regression and smoke test runs; analyze failures, triage root causes and work with developers to resolve defects promptly.

• Use tools like JIRA and Confluence to log, track and document defects, test plans, and run results with clear reproducible steps and evidence.

• Collaborate with product, security and operations teams to design realistic test data sets, environment configurations and mock/stub services where needed.

• Participate in sprint ceremonies, provide reliable test estimates, and help the team balance speed of delivery with appropriate test coverage.

• Champion test automation best practices: code reviews, clean test design, data-driven approaches and Page Object Model or equivalent patterns.

• Assist with performance and reliability checks, escalating risks and proposing mitigations when automated checks reveal systemic problems.

• Mentor junior QA engineers, help broaden automation skillsets across the team and contribute to continual process improvement initiatives.

Requirements & Eligibility:

• Proven experience with Java (8+) — solid Core Java and OOP fundamentals to design maintainable automation code.

• Hands-on automation experience with Selenium WebDriver and automation frameworks such as TestNG/JUnit and BDD frameworks like Cucumber.

• Practical knowledge of the full SDLC/STLC and experience testing in Agile/DevOps environments (SCRUM, TDD/BDD practices).

• Experience with CI/CD tools (for example Jenkins, GitLab CI) and integrating automated suites into pipelines for continuous testing.

• Familiarity with test management tools (JIRA, Confluence) and defect-tracking workflows; ability to write clear bug reports and test documentation.

• SQL skills for backend validation — able to write and run queries to verify data states and test expectations.

• Experience with unit testing and secure coding practices to support higher-quality deliverables and reduce downstream defects.

• Strong analytical and debugging capabilities — investigate flaky tests, environment issues, and identify root causes.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management — explain technical risks to non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent; prior payments/finance domain exposure is a plus but not mandatory.
