Job Description

Cognizant is looking for an analytical and innovation-driven Associate – Data Science professional to join its Hi-Tech domain team. In this role, you will play a key part in advancing data-driven decision-making and leveraging emerging technologies to build scalable analytical solutions. As a core member of the data science division, you will apply your expertise in Machine Learning, Python3, and MySQL to design, implement, and optimize data pipelines and predictive models that directly support strategic business goals.

You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including data engineers, business analysts, and domain experts to translate complex business problems into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering and statistical modeling, a passion for continuous learning, and the ability to balance innovation with operational excellence. This role also involves rotational shift work, ensuring global coordination and 24x7 project support across Cognizant’s digital ecosystem.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Data Analysis & Insights: Analyze large structured and unstructured datasets to uncover patterns, trends, and correlations that inform strategic business decisions.

• Machine Learning Implementation: Design, train, and deploy ML models for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and process optimization across enterprise-level applications.

• Automation & Optimization: Use Python3 to build automation scripts, streamline data processing, and enhance efficiency in analytical workflows.

• Database Management: Develop and manage MySQL databases ensuring scalability, performance, and data integrity across multiple projects.

• Data Cleaning & Validation: Perform comprehensive data validation and cleansing to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability in analytical outputs.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, operations, and business teams to align analytical solutions with functional goals.

• Data Storytelling: Translate technical results into actionable insights through dashboards, reports, and presentations for senior leadership.

• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve existing analytics processes, data pipelines, and reporting efficiency.

• Technical Mentorship: Guide and support junior data scientists, sharing best practices in machine learning and data analytics.

• Governance & Compliance: Uphold Cognizant’s data governance standards, ensuring data security, privacy, and ethical usage.

• Continuous Learning: Stay current with evolving trends in AI, ML, data engineering, and visualization tools to strengthen project capabilities.

• Rotational Support: Collaborate across time zones and rotational shifts to ensure timely project execution and operational continuity.

Requirements & Eligibility

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.

• 5–8 years of professional experience in data analytics, machine learning, or business intelligence roles.

• Proficiency in Python3 and its ML libraries (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, etc.).

• Advanced understanding of MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and database tuning.

• Strong knowledge of Machine Learning algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised models, regression, classification, and clustering techniques.

• Exposure to data visualization tools and dashboarding (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Matplotlib).

• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.

• Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex insights clearly to stakeholders.

• Proven ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality outputs within tight deadlines.

• Adaptability to work in rotational shifts, ensuring seamless collaboration across regions.

• Preferred Certifications:

  • Certified Data Scientist (CDS)

  • Python Programming Certification

  • MySQL Database Certification

Expected Salary

For the Associate – Data Science role at Cognizant, the typical compensation range in India is ₹12 LPA – ₹20 LPA, depending on experience, domain specialization, and technical expertise.
