Job Description

As a Test Engineer at Barclays, you will play a central role in elevating the quality and reliability of digital products used by millions of customers across global markets. This role involves creating detailed testing strategies, developing automation scripts, and validating application functionality, usability, and performance in a highly dynamic financial technology environment. You will work with Java, Selenium, AI-enhanced testing tools, and industry-standard frameworks to ensure that every release meets Barclays’ stringent quality benchmarks. Your contribution will directly influence customer experience, operational accuracy, and overall digital transformation efforts within Barclays.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, architects, and QA peers to analyse requirements, participate in design discussions, and develop comprehensive acceptance criteria. The role also requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to conduct root-cause investigations, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will stay engaged with emerging technologies, participate in code reviews, and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives across teams. Whether independently or within a team, you will be expected to demonstrate accountability, uphold Barclays’ values, and help strengthen risk controls in your area of responsibility.


Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Design and implement detailed test plans, strategies, and scenarios to validate software functionality against business and technical specifications.

  2. Develop and execute automated scripts using Selenium, Java, and other approved automation frameworks to detect defects early in the lifecycle.

  3. Perform manual testing across functional, integration, regression, and exploratory cycles to ensure comprehensive test coverage.

  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams during requirement and design discussions, contributing to acceptance criteria and identifying gaps or risks.

  5. Analyse defects thoroughly, perform root-cause analysis, and work closely with developers to ensure timely and accurate resolutions.

  6. Review peer work, participate in code discussions, and promote high-quality engineering and testing practices across the team.

  7. Stay updated on emerging AI-based testing tools and leverage them to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and automation coverage.

  8. Support leadership by preparing concise test reports, risk assessments, and progress summaries for stakeholders.

  9. Demonstrate strong decision-making and attention to detail while balancing independent work with collaborative delivery expectations.

  10. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance testing processes, frameworks, and digital capabilities within the organisation.

  11. Build effective relationships with customers, stakeholders, and internal partners to ensure alignment on quality goals and deliverables.

  12. Take ownership of risk management activities, ensuring compliance with Barclays' regulatory, security, and operational standards.


Requirements & Eligibility

  1. Experience or extensive knowledge in software testing methodologies, defect management, and QA best practices.

  2. Strong foundational understanding of Selenium and Java, with the ability to write and maintain automation scripts.

  3. Good knowledge of banking technology, digital platforms, and domain concepts is preferred.

  4. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, agile team with adaptability and a positive attitude.

  5. Familiarity with AI-driven testing tools or interest in adopting intelligent testing approaches to improve accuracy and efficiency.

  6. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to make balanced decisions based on available information.

  7. Educational qualification: BE, BCA, or related technical degrees; Master’s in Computer Science or similar fields is desirable.

  8. Certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, or CSQA are a strong plus and demonstrate commitment to the testing profession.

  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and confidently to stakeholders.

  10. Awareness of banking applications and workflows, contributing to better requirement understanding and scenario coverage.


Expected Salary

Test Engineers in Chennai within top-tier financial institutions such as Barclays typically earn between ₹6 lakhs and ₹11 lakhs per annum, depending on experience, automation skills, and domain exposure. Professionals with strong Java-Selenium automation expertise and familiarity with AI-driven testing tools may be offered salaries at the higher end of the range.
