Job Description

The Automation Test Specialist / Senior Test Specialist – Cloud API role at KONE is a senior-quality engineering position within the Research & Development unit of KONE Technology and Innovation (KTI). This role is focused on ensuring the quality, reliability, and scalability of KONE’s next-generation digital services that connect elevators and escalators to the cloud. You will be working on Cloud API platforms that enable real-time data ingestion, device connectivity, and future-ready analytics for smart buildings worldwide.

In this role, you will be part of the Cloud API (BOI Tribe) team, responsible for testing API portals, backend APIs, and UI components that support Experience APIs, Operational APIs, and partnership integrations. You will combine deep automation expertise with strong manual testing skills to validate complex cloud-native, IoT-driven systems. Your work will directly impact how billions of people experience safe, reliable, and intelligent movement within buildings every day.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Execute automated and manual tests for new feature development across Cloud API UI portals and backend APIs such as Experience API and Operational API.

  • Design, develop, optimize, and maintain robust automation test scripts using Python and Robot Framework.

  • Perform API testing using REST APIs, webhooks, and tools such as Postman to validate integrations and data flows.

  • Ensure end-to-end application software quality before release to higher test environments or production stages.

  • Maintain a clear, structured defect backlog and work closely with development teams to track fixes and resolutions.

  • Provide detailed defect reports and quality assessments to support go/no-go deployment decisions.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines by ensuring automation stability and reducing overall test execution time.

  • Propose and implement new tools, techniques, and innovative approaches to enhance test automation capabilities.

  • Support hardware and device integration testing, including maintaining lab setups in line with 5S and safety guidelines.

  • Review test cases, test libraries, and quality metrics, ensuring alignment with best practices and project goals.


Requirements & Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ECE, E&I, EEE or equivalent technical discipline).

  • Minimum 10+ years of hands-on experience in test automation roles such as Test Specialist, Test Architect, or Automation Lead.

  • Strong Python programming skills with experience building scalable automated test frameworks.

  • Proven expertise in Robot Framework with Selenium WebDriver for UI automation testing.

  • Extensive experience in both manual and automated API testing using REST APIs, webhooks, and Postman.

  • Mandatory working knowledge of AWS cloud services; AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solution Architect certification is a plus.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and GitLab.

  • Familiarity with defect and requirement management tools like Jira and Jama.

  • Experience working in Agile and Lean development environments with strong understanding of the software testing lifecycle.

  • Excellent communication, debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a strong quality-first mindset.
