Job Description

As an Automation Tester within Barclays’ Corporate Digital Banking division, you will be part of a high-impact team responsible for enhancing the quality and reliability of digital banking platforms used by corporate clients worldwide. This role requires designing, developing, and executing automated tests that validate complex system behaviours within agile sprints. You will work with Java, Selenium, Cucumber, and leading BDD frameworks to build scalable automation test suites covering UI, backend APIs, microservices, and event-driven workflows. Your work will directly influence the stability, security, and performance of corporate banking applications, ensuring seamless digital trading and payment experiences for global customers.

This role also focuses on continuous improvement, where you will refine automation frameworks, enhance coverage, implement best practices, and collaborate closely with developers, product owners, DevOps teams, and peer testers. You will contribute to requirement analysis, defect triage, root-cause evaluation, and performance validation, while leveraging modern technologies such as OpenShift, Jenkins, Kafka, and Git for end-to-end automation integration. Your ability to balance technical depth with strategic thinking will help drive quality engineering initiatives across the digital banking ecosystem. Roles & Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks using Java, Selenium, Cucumber, and BDD principles to support regression and functional testing.

2. Execute test strategies across system, integration, API, user acceptance, and non-functional test phases within agile delivery cycles.

3. Automate REST and SOAP APIs, validate microservice interactions, and perform testing within OpenShift and similar containerized environments.

4. Collaborate with developers and business analysts during requirement grooming sessions, contributing to acceptance criteria and clarifying test coverage.

5. Perform detailed root-cause analysis for defects, documenting findings and partnering with engineers to drive timely resolution.

6. Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Git, or GitLab to enable continuous testing and early defect discovery.

7. Work with event-streaming systems such as Kafka to validate message flows, consumer behaviour, and downstream impacts.

8. Review peer test scripts, participate in code quality discussions, and contribute to a robust testing culture across the engineering team.

9. Provide test progress updates, risk assessments, regression summaries, and defect metrics to stakeholders and leadership teams.

10. Stay updated on emerging automation tools, digital banking technologies, and best practices to help enhance the overall testing ecosystem.

11. Support quality governance efforts by strengthening risk controls, contributing to policies, and identifying gaps in testing processes.

12. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality software delivery aligned with Barclays’ values, technology standards, and strategic objectives.

Requirements & Eligibility

1. Strong experience in software testing with hands-on involvement across system, integration, UAT, and non-functional test cycles.

2. Proven track record building automation scripts using Java, Selenium, Cucumber, BDD frameworks, and API automation techniques.

3. Experience working with OpenShift or similar cloud-native platforms to test microservices and container-based deployments.

4. Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and Git, ensuring automation scripts integrate seamlessly with delivery pipelines.

5. Exposure to Kafka or other event-streaming technologies, with the ability to validate event-driven workflows.

6. Good understanding of STLC, agile methodologies, and defect lifecycle management using tools like Jira, Xray, or GitLab.

7. Strong communication and leadership abilities with a proven record of team collaboration and technical influence.

8. Prior experience in the finance, payments, or corporate banking domain is highly desirable.

9. Knowledge of Confluence, test management tools, and version control best practices is beneficial.

10. Analytical mindset with attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a passion for delivering high-quality digital experiences.
