Job Overview

The Embedded Software Testing Engineer at Hitachi Energy plays a key role in ensuring the reliability and performance of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Control and Protection Systems—a core part of the company’s green energy infrastructure. This role focuses on testing embedded systems, verifying hardware–software integration, and contributing to the development of next-generation digital control systems used in global power and energy transmission networks.

As part of Hitachi Energy’s India Development Centre, you’ll be involved in setting up test environments, executing validation scenarios, debugging system-level issues, and collaborating closely with developers and hardware engineers. You will work with microcontrollers, digital signal processors, analog/digital acquisition systems, and industrial communication protocols, ensuring high-quality and safe operation of HVDC systems that enable renewable energy transmission worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Test Environment Setup:

  • Build and maintain test environments using MACH Control System components, computers, servers, I/O boards, and simulation setups.

  • Ensure all hardware and software configurations are current and compliant with system specifications.

• Test Case Development & Execution:

  • Design and document test scenarios and test cases to validate control system functionalities.

  • Execute integration, functional, regression, and acceptance testing for multiple software and hardware releases.

  • Analyze test results, identify issues, and collaborate with development teams for timely resolution.

• Reporting & Documentation:

  • Record detailed test execution reports and maintain test logs.

  • Update documentation for test environments, setups, and procedures to ensure reproducibility.

• Compliance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Ensure testing processes adhere to Hitachi Energy’s quality and safety standards.

  • Support automation initiatives using Python and Robot Framework to enhance testing efficiency.

  • Participate in continuous learning to stay aligned with new embedded testing technologies and protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education:

  • B.E/B.Tech in EEE or ECE (mandatory)

  • M.E/M.Tech in Embedded Systems or related field preferred

• Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software testing.

  • Strong background in hardware-software integration and system-level testing.

• Technical Expertise:

  • Experience with Analog/Digital data acquisition systems, including sensors, ADCs, digital filters, comparators, and signal conditioning.

  • Proficiency in test case design techniques, test management tools, and issue-tracking systems.

  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, UART, SPI, LIN, K-Line, SAE, GMLAN.

  • Understanding of Boolean algebra, digital logic design, and control theory.

  • Hands-on experience with HVDC Control & Protection testing is an advantage.

  • Test automation experience using Python and Robot Framework is highly desirable.

• Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging capabilities.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple testing activities under tight timelines.

Expected Salary Range

For experienced embedded testing professionals in Chennai, the typical salary range for this position is ₹12 – ₹22 LPA, depending on experience, technical depth, and domain expertise (HVDC and control systems experience attract higher compensation).
