Barclays is inviting skilled professionals to join its Technology division as an Automation Test Lead in Pune, India. In this leadership position, you’ll drive the evolution of quality assurance and test automation frameworks that power some of the most advanced financial technologies in the world.

As part of Barclays’ digital transformation journey, you’ll design, develop, and execute robust automation testing strategies across web, API, and microservices-based platforms. The role demands hands-on expertise in Java, REST APIs, Spring Boot, Cucumber, Selenium, and CI/CD tools, combined with the ability to lead teams and collaborate across functions.

As an Assistant Vice President (AVP) level role, you will not only guide testing initiatives but also mentor engineers, shape QA best practices, and influence strategic technology decisions across business units.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and execution of automated testing strategies for complex digital systems and applications.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including developers, product managers, and architects — to define testing scope, acceptance criteria, and success metrics.

• Develop and maintain automated test frameworks using Gherkin, Cucumber, and Selenium for UI, API, and integration layers.

• Implement REST API testing using Java, Spring Boot, and automation tools to ensure robust back-end service validation.

• Drive performance testing initiatives leveraging tools and frameworks to ensure scalability and reliability of systems under load.

• Integrate test automation within CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or equivalent DevOps tools to enable continuous testing and faster release cycles.

• Conduct detailed root cause analysis of defects, ensuring timely communication and resolution across development teams.

• Foster a culture of technical excellence by conducting code reviews, mentoring QA engineers, and sharing automation best practices.

• Partner with stakeholders to improve QA processes, tooling, and governance to align with global quality standards.

• Stay ahead of emerging QA technologies and methodologies — including containerization (ApaaS), mutation testing, and blueprint libraries — and evaluate their potential for adoption.

Requirements & Eligibility

Essential Skills & Experience:

• 8+ years of experience in software testing and automation, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or senior QA role.

• Strong programming background in Java, with experience in REST API development and testing using Spring Boot.

• Proficiency in test automation frameworks including Cucumber, Gherkin, and Selenium WebDriver.

• Experience with Angular or ReactJS-based front-end testing and familiarity with Mutation Testing.

• Practical knowledge of Performance Testing tools and methodologies.

• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and exposure to tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a strong ability to collaborate across teams.

• Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and iterative software delivery practices.

Desirable / Good-to-Have Skills:

• Familiarity with OAS/RAML specifications, ApaaS containerization, and Blueprint libraries.

• Exposure to Microservice Architecture (MCA) testing and automation for distributed systems.

• Prior experience leading QA teams in large-scale financial or enterprise technology projects.

• Understanding of risk management, governance frameworks, and compliance standards within regulated industries.

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.

Expected Salary

At Barclays Pune, the typical salary range for an Automation Test Lead (AVP) is between ₹22,00,000 and ₹34,00,000 per annum, depending on experience, leadership skills, and technical proficiency.
Exceptional candidates with strong expertise in performance testing, CI/CD, and automation leadership may command higher compensation aligned with senior AVP roles.
