Job Description

Merkle is seeking a talented and detail-oriented QA Automation Engineer to join its growing quality assurance team in Pune. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all developed software meets the highest quality standards before release. This role involves creating and executing comprehensive automated test cases, identifying issues early in the development lifecycle, and driving improvements across QA processes.

As a QA Automation Engineer, you will work closely with development, product, and DevOps teams to design effective test strategies, ensure thorough test coverage, and integrate automation into continuous delivery pipelines. The position requires a deep understanding of testing frameworks, scripting, and tools β€” along with a passion for building efficient, scalable, and reliable automation systems.

You will also be expected to mentor junior QA members, identify improvement opportunities in testing processes, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of software quality across Merkle’s diverse digital platforms and enterprise applications.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute automated and manual test cases based on project requirements and technical documentation.

  • Participate actively in test planning sessions, identifying test objectives, scope, and detailed effort estimates.

  • Ensure comprehensive test coverage across positive, negative, and exception scenarios.

  • Identify, log, and track defects with appropriate severity and priority, following up until closure.

  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project managers to understand requirements and technical designs.

  • Engage in functional and non-functional testing including regression, integration, and system testing.

  • Participate in software design discussions and test strategy sessions to ensure quality integration at every stage.

  • Identify potential areas for process improvement, suggest solutions, and support implementation.

  • Mentor junior QA engineers by sharing best practices, frameworks, and automation approaches.

  • Manage QA documentation, including test cases, test results, and regression reports.

  • Analyze production issues, perform root cause analysis, and work with technical teams to resolve them efficiently.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to plan test environment setup, deployment, and maintenance.


Requirements & Eligibility

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of QA methodologies, SDLC, and STLC.

  • Proficiency in test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, TestNG, JUnit).

  • Experience with API testing using Postman, RestAssured, or similar tools.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.

  • Strong knowledge of defect management tools (e.g., Jira, Zephyr, TestRail).

  • Hands-on experience in functional, regression, and performance testing.

  • Good scripting knowledge in Java, Python, or JavaScript for test automation.

  • Experience with version control systems (Git) and Agile development practices.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional global teams.

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for test execution environments.

  • Knowledge of API automation frameworks and data-driven testing approaches.

  • Exposure to performance testing tools like JMeter or LoadRunner.

  • Understanding of security and accessibility testing fundamentals.

  • Certifications like ISTQB, Certified Selenium Tester, or equivalent are a plus.
