Job Description

Siemens Energy is seeking an experienced Substation Automation Engineer to design, engineer, and implement advanced automation systems for electrical substations. This role is pivotal in enhancing monitoring, control, and protection functions that keep power systems efficient, secure, and reliable. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of SCADA systems, IEDs, RTUs, gateways, and communication protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 101/104, DNP3, and Modbus TCP/IP.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design, engineer, and implement substation automation systems to optimize monitoring, control, and protection functions.

• Prepare and review engineering documentation including FDS, System Architecture, Signal Lists, BOM, GA drawings, and heat load calculations.

• Develop and maintain testing and commissioning documentation such as FAT, SAT, and test reports.

• Integrate and configure IEDs, RTUs, gateways, and HMIs for seamless remote monitoring and control.

• Configure and troubleshoot communication networks and protocols (IEC 61850, IEC-101/104, DNP3, OPC, Modbus TCP/IP).

• Perform I/O mapping, parameterization, and database management for SAS and RTU systems.

• Work with Siemens SICAM (PAS, Toolbox, WinCC, SCC), Hitachi Micro SCADA, and GE DS Agile solutions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure robust implementation and parameterization procedures.

• Conduct customer presentations and training sessions to share technical knowledge.

• Stay updated with emerging technologies, cybersecurity practices, and global substation standards.

Requirements & Eligibility

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

• 5–8 years of hands-on experience in substation automation system design, engineering, and implementation.

• Proficiency in SAS systems, RTU programming, HMI development, and PC networking (switches, routers, firewalls).

• Strong understanding of substation communication protocols (IEC 61850, IEC 101/103/104, DNP3, Modbus TCP/IP).

• Familiarity with process bus technology, parameterization procedures, and IED configuration.

• Experience with cybersecurity measures, GPS synchronization, and network troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, IED Scout).

• Ability to travel extensively (50–70%) and work at different project sites globally.

• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders.

Expected Salary

For Substation Automation Engineers in Pune, the salary typically ranges between ₹12–20 LPA, depending on expertise in IEC 61850 systems, global commissioning experience, and level of responsibility. International travel allowances and project bonuses may also be included as part of the compensation package.
